A tool is a gateway
The tools we build are gateways to the APIs of your business applications: your ERP, your CRM, your inventory system, your accounting software, or your in-house systems. An API is the official "front door" a piece of software offers so that other programs can talk to it in a controlled way.
When the agent needs to, say, check a product's availability, it doesn't manipulate your software directly: it calls a gateway, and the gateway queries your system through its API, then returns the answer.
The AI doesn't go inside your systems
This is the most important point, and often the most reassuring. The AI has no direct access to your databases or your applications. It simply asks the gateway to run a specific function. It's the gateway — code we write and that you control — that talks to your system, with your credentials, your rules, and your limits.
In other words, the AI never sees inside your systems: it only knows the question it asks and the answer the gateway agrees to give it. It's a bit like a service counter: you speak to the counter, you never step into the back office.
Limited by design
Each gateway is built for a specific task, and exposes only that. A "check availability" tool can't change a price; a "create an order" tool can't delete a customer. The agent is therefore strictly limited to what the tool exposes and to what it was designed for.
There's no general access, so no nasty surprises. You decide, function by function, what the agent is allowed to do — which makes its behavior predictable, verifiable, and secure.
